How many VLANs does the HP ProCurve 2848 support?
By default, the number of supported VLANs on the HP ProCurve 2848 switch is set to 8. However, you can set the limit of supported VLANs to up to 256 using the switch configuration via telnet.

Here’s how you can easily change this value using telnet:
- Connect to the switch via
telnet [switch ip address]. - Enter the menu mode using
menu - Navigate to
2. Switch Configurationusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Navigate to
8. VLAN menuusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Navigate to
1. VLAN supportusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Select
Editusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Enter
256(this will overwrite the default of value of8) and pressReturn.

- Select
Saveusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Select
Return to Main Menuusing the arrow keys and pressReturn. Notice that the1. VLAN supportvalue indicates with a*that the value has been changed and it needs a reboot to activate the changes.

- Select
6. Reboot Switchusing the arrow keys and pressReturn.

- Press
Yto selectYesto confirm the reboot and pressReturnto confirm.

The switch will tell you Rebooting the System and reboot accordingly. After the reboot, you can verify that the number of supported VLANs has been changed to 256 by entering the menu again and navigating to 8. VLAN menu and then 1. VLAN support.
