Problem
On Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon), the official way to enable the real-time kernel using Ubuntu Pro fails:
example.sh
sudo pro enable realtime-kernelpro-output.txt

Real-time kernel cannot be enabled with Livepatch.
Disable Livepatch and proceed to enable Real-time kernel? (y/N) y
Real-time kernel is not available for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon).
Could not enable Real-time kernel.Even after answering y to disable Livepatch, pro refuses to proceed because the real-time kernel is not (yet) available for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS via the Pro channel.
Solution
Install the ubuntu-realtime package directly with apt. It pulls in everything else (the RT-patched kernel image, matching headers, and any required dependencies) automatically — no repository enabling or manual meta-package tracking needed.
1. Install ubuntu-realtime
example.sh
sudo apt install ubuntu-realtime2. Reboot
example.sh
sudo reboot3. Verify the Running Kernel
After reboot, confirm that the running kernel is the RT variant:
example.sh
uname -aThe output should contain -rt in the kernel release string, for example:
uname.txt
Linux hostname 6.x.0-xxxx-rt-... #... SMP PREEMPT RT ...References
